Teapot “Sky the Pebble’s Brother”

Magic appears where boundaries blur. In myths, an object acquires the properties of an animal: the animal speaks like a human, plants suddenly get blood or scream, as the mandrake root does. The kingdoms of objects and creatures are isolated like fingers, but if we look at their bases, we will see how they merge together.

In Korea, stone figures of dogs were placed at the entrance to the buildings. These things were called “hechi” (heizhi). They protected the house from adversity and fires, just eating fire on the way to the house. Since the hechi were fire-eating, they were associated with the water element. In China, they correspond to lions fu. in Japan there is something similar, too.

The images of my beast-headed teapots are taken from stone guard dogs. In a sense, the teapot for the ceremony stands at the entrance to the house of the mind and protects the owner from the fire of anxiety.

Handmade ceramic teapot with a volume of approximately 120 ml.
